We have been working on two major projects for the women around the world. First, is the International Leadership Conference coming up in October in Kiev. This is the first time we have been outside the United States in many years. We are excited that this year we will be able to meet with more women leaders from around the world, especially, those from countries in Europe, Eurasia and the Middle East.

The theme for the conference is The Edge. Lena Wooten from Kiev, Ukraine, and Tammy Fleming from Birmingham, England will open our women’s session with a message on Walking on the Edge. Vania Salim from Jakarta, Indonesia and Irene Renton from Johannesburg, South Africa, will be speaking on the topic Together on the Edge. Gloria Baird from Los Angeles, CA, and Elizabeth Sinn from Hong Kong, China, will close our session with their thoughts on To the Edge and Beyond. We are looking forward to a great time of fellowship, inspiration and challenge with many sisters around the world.

Secondly, Jeanie Shaw, Karen Louis and Tammy Fleming are working with several other women to create a website for women on Disciples Today. They are in the process of collecting studies, lessons and devotional thoughts, profiles in courage, book/website reviews, women’s health articles, audio classes and much more so that we as women can be more connected and encouraged by each others’ lives. The website should be available by the end of the year.

Each of the women on the service committee has been a faithful leader of women in God’s kingdom for many years. Most of us have heard about them, but some may not know the depth of experience they bring to our team. I will be sharing with you some fun facts about two or three of the sisters on the team in this article and future articles so that you can know each one of us a little better.

ELIZABETH SINN is the wife of Turner Sinn, who is an evangelist in the Hong Kong church. She and her husband now lead the Railway Region in the Hong Kong Church after serving in different roles in the church for 14 years. Elizabeth, over the past 7 years, has helped train lay leaders to meet the needs of married sisters who are elderly, women with non-Christian spouses, and single mums. Elizabeth has been a disciple for nearly 19 years. She has been married for 40 years and has 2 daughters, Renee and Dorene. Dorene is married to Tai and has a son, Adrian, who just turned one. Renee, Dorene and Tai are all living in Hong Kong and serve as Bible Talk Leaders in the church.

NADINE TEMPLER has been a disciple for 25 years. She is married to Mark Templer. They have four children, Hannah, 19 (college student in Seattle), Luke, 16, Esther, 16, who is adopted from India, and Madeleine, 7. She and her husband work with HOPEworldwide in South Asia. They oversee poverty projects in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Nadine concentrates her efforts on education. Mark and Nadine have lived in India for most of the last 20 years and call that wonderful part of the world their home.

TAMMY FLEMING was baptized in the Boston Church of Christ in 1985 and married evangelist, Andy Fleming on the mission field in Stockholm, Sweden in 1987. Since then, the Flemings have served in the full time ministry in London, England; Los Angeles; and Moscow. One year ago they moved to Birmingham, England, and are employed as the Evangelist and Women’s Minister of the Midlands Churches of Christ, serving two congregations in the UK. Tammy assists Andy in his work with the churches in the Middle East as well. Their daughter, Britain, 19, is a disciple and University student in the London Church of Christ, and their son, Justin, is 10.

We know that God is using each one of you to meet the needs of the sisters and women in your area of the world. We deeply appreciate your love and dedication to His word and His church. May God continue to use all of us to inspire each other and change this world for Christ.
